Guided visit to Old quarter and Santa Cruz Neigborhood
The Old quarter of Alicante, better known as “El Barrio”, has several places worth visiting, besides his rich gastronomic and nightlife offer. In Viva la Lengua we have prepared a guided visit as part of our activities program. We want to guide you through the streets and main monuments of the Old quarter and “Santa Cruz” Neighborhood. All these places have something to tell us about the history of Alicante, walking at the afternoon will be surprising.

Guided visit to Santa Barbara Castle
Another activity we have prepared in Viva la Lengua is the guided visit to Santa Barbara Castel. Since this is an important city highlight of Alicante we think it is a good idea to have a guided visit and hear the complet explanations of specialized guides while you learn Spanish language.
Discovering the history of the Castle would allow you to understand better the history of the city. Also, it’s possible to you to visit the museum area that clearly illustrates all the stages of the city. Another special attraction is to admire the stunning views from the highest tower of the Castle.

Spanish-speaking film screenings
One of the most attractive activities in Viva la Lengua is Spanish and Latin-American film screenings. We join together in the afternoons in recreation area where everything will be ready to see a film like “All About my Mother”; directed by Pedro Almódovar, “Love’s a Bitch”; directed by González Iñarritu, “Son of the Bride”; directed by Juan José Campanella and many others. We will show the films using subtitles and we will study special vocabulary that can be necessary to understand the film. It will be like going to the cinema plus Spanish language lessons.

Cultural lecture about Gabriel García Márquez
Other cultural lecture we have prepared in Viva la Lengua is about Gabriel García Márquez, who was one of the main writers in Spanish language of the last years. In this activity we will talk about the life and work of the writer. We will get into the Magic Realism that seems to have been created by him. Also we will talk about his most famous books as “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, “Love in the Time of Cholera”, “Of Love and Others Demons” and “No One writes to the Coronel”. Three of these important books have been become films.
As always, the main objective is to enforce your learning process of Spanish language in a relaxed environment with an interesting topic.

Cultural lecture about Frida Kahlo
Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is one of the main personalities of the Spanish-speaking context and her work is well known in the entire world. Her genius and the expressivity of her paints were recognized in the last century for the famous artistic movement called surrealism. However, it has been her particular lifestyle that has contributed to create her myth and a world fame.
In Viva la Lengua we are big fans of Frida Kahlo, for that reason we have created this activity to introduce Spanish language students to her magic world. We want to share with you details of his life and work through different martials but with one principal objective: to contribute to your Spanish learning process.

Handcrafts workshop
The handcrafts of the Spanish-speaking countries are well known in the world because are plenty of color. Usually these handcrafts are sold as souvenirs or as collection objects but this pieces are just a reflection of the creativity and imagination that are part of our Spanish-speaking culture. There are several technics some of them more complicated than others. In Viva la Lengua we have designed this activity to improve your Spanish language knowledge through simple technics as paint, cut or paste to create unique pieces. This is a creativity workshop prepared to let your imagination run wild and to have fun while using all our senses to learn Spanish language.

Cultural lecture about Lorca
Federico García Lorca is one of the most important poets of the modern literature of Spanish language, for this reason we have prepared a cultural lecture about him in Viva la Lengua. In this activity we will talk about the life and work of this poet who lived life to the fullest surrounded by the most important artists of his time. We will discuss details of his life that will help us to understand his poetry and the Spanish language in general.

Spanish cooking classes
Spanish cooking classes are part of the activities’ program we have prepared in Viva la Lengua to improve your Spanish language learning in a fun and relaxed environment. Spanish cuisine is so wide, and depends on the region of Spain the dishes change. For this reason, the objective of the cooking classes is to share with you the most representatives and simple dishes of the Spanish diet. We will cook together having fun and learning some new vocabulary.
We will cook tortilla española, gazpacho andaluz, salmorejo or croquetas. These classes are suitable for everyone, no matters you had never used a frying pan in your whole life. We are sure you will be interested in cooking while you improve your Spanish language.

Mexican cooking classes
Another activity we have prepared in Viva la Lengua is the Mexican cooking classes. Who hasn’t enjoyed a delicious guacamole or nachos? It’s probably you feel like eating just thinking about it. For this reason we have decided to include this activity. We will cook simple Mexican dishes like “guacamole”, “pico de gallo”, “quesadillas” or authentic “nachos” while you improve your vocabulary and learn more about the richness of the Mexican culture.
