 | Spanish Schools in Spain Private Lessons Our one-to-one courses are designed for students requiring a highly specialised and intensive course. These individual courses can be given on a standalone basis or as a complement to any of the other courses given at Páramo, Academia de Español. The one-to-one courses adapt to the timetable and requirements of the student. Note: At Páramo, the lessons have a duration of 55 minutes. Classes are held from Monday through Friday, except official holidays. Summer Camps Summer courses for young people The summer courses offered at Páramo, Academia de Español are aimed basically at groups of university and secondary school students. They offer sound academic training together with a wide variety of extracurricular activities aimed at the full enjoyment of summer: trips out and about, excursions, sports, music concerts, outdoor cinema, etc. Besides the classes and activities, the summer courses include accommodation in the university residences in Valladolid, with full board, for the four weeks the course lasts. Similarly, when groups include more than 10 students, an accompanying teacher from the institution sending the students, together with return transport from the airport of arrival (Valladolid or Madrid) to the city, is included free of charge. School Trips Schools, institutes, student groups COURSES FOR GROUPS These courses have been designed for groups from schools, colleges, universities, associations, etc.) and seek to satisfy the particular needs of each one. Accordingly, the number of hours may adapt to the group’s needs (10, 20, 30, etc. hours a week during the course except Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays -an official lesson hour is 55 minutes-), as well as to other conditions: accommodation, timetable, etc. On most occasions, we offer a full programme of extracurricular activities (visits to museums, excursions, walks around the city, sports, etc.) that is perfectly adapted to suit the group’s needs. Páramo, Academia de Español offers these programmes with particularly interesting prices and conditions. Please consult with the school office. Courses Intensive Course 20 20 Hours per week Our intensive courses are designed for all students over the age of 14 wanting to begin or improve their skills in and knowledge of the Spanish language and culture. On the first day, students do a short test so that we can place them at the level that best suits their knowledge. Páramo, Academia de Español has six levels: Initial A1, Elemmentary A2, Basic B1, Intermediate B2, Advanced C1, Upper C2. There are never more than 6 students in a group, which enables rapid, efficient progress for all in the four language skills: listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. Our intensive courses are made up of 20 hours of lessons a week during the course except Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays (an official lesson hour is 55 minutes) in the morning or afternoon, depending on the time of the year and the level. Intensive Course 30 30 hours per week IMMERSION COURSES Immersion courses are aimed at the Spanish students who have little time and need to progress in a relatively short time. Páramo, Academia de Español recommends this course to students who have a basic knowledge of the Spanish language. The immersion courses involve 30 hours of lessons a week during the course except Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays (an official lesson hour is 55 minutes). After a short placement test, students are put into small groups of a maximum of 6 and receive 4 hours a day as part of the intensive course and, later, a further 2 hours a day in individual classes or in classes with a very small number of students. Preparation DELE DELE: Diploma Español como Lengua Extranjera. The Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (D.E.L.E.) is the only officially recognised title in Spanish. It is awarded by Instituto Cervantes and recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. It is set on three different levels: Beginners Diploma, Intermediate Diploma and Advanced Diploma. The exams take place during the months of May and November (since 2002, there is also an extraordinary sitting in Spain in August). For further information on these exams, please visit: Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) del Instituto Cervantes Since it was opened, Páramo, Academia de Español has offered a specific course for these examinations. Depending on the chosen duration, the course begins 4 or 8 weeks before the exam. The course comprises 20 hours of lessons a week during the course except Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays (an official lesson hour is 55 minutes) and the content is aimed exclusively at preparing students for the exam. We use only our own material and official past examination papers, with excellent results. Similarly, since 2005, Páramo, Academia de Español offers a complementary course for students on any of the courses given at the school. This course adds 10 hours of lessons a week during the course except Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays (an official lesson hour is 55 minutes) exclusively aimed at preparing the D.E.L.E., given in a timetable that is compatible with the main course. 50 Plus Courses for adults from 50 years This course is thought for senior students who, far from intensive courses and language immersions, would preferably learn Spanish in a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying a varied and complete set of extra activities. Matching each student’s prior knowledge, this course will take place from Monday to Friday in the shape of four sessions of 55 min each morning. These morning lessons will be complemented with cultural activities and interesting excursions every afternoon. These courses are recommended to people who prefer to study in same-age and same-interest groups. Non-senior students could also take these courses if they have got common targets. |
 | Activities At Páramo, Academia de Español, we understand that extracurricular activities are the best complement for teaching the Spanish language, since they enable complete contact between the student and Spanish reality, history and art. It is a different way of learning in a more relaxed atmosphere where students can also get to know the other students who are at the school but not in the same class. Each month, we draw up the corresponding extracurricular activities programme, where we include a variety of activities. Touristic Tour WALKS AROUND THE CITY -Valladolid, capital of the Royal Court -Valladolid and the Arts - The Sculptures of Valladolid: A walk around a variety of places in the city holding some of the most important public sculptures created from the 19th century to present day. -Light and shadow: Valladolid at night -The Heretic Route: This visit re-creates the places mentioned in Miguel Delibes's Novel, The Heretic, illustrating the life of the protagonist, Cipriano Salcedo, the Valladolid of the Renaissance Royal Court and the Inquisition. Each month, we organise two excursions to one of the provincial routes or to one of the cities near Valladolid. Transport and entrance fees, where required, are included: -The Prince Juan Manuel or the Red Wine Route: The Prince Juan Manuel Route, with the Ribera del Duero area as its central point, offers excellent red wine and the artistic wealth of towns and villages such as Peñafiel or San Bernardo, with the emblematic monastery of Santa María de Valbuena, which is home to Fundación Las Edades del Hombre. -The Torozos Mountains and Rosé Wine route: To the south of Tierra de Campos lies the moorland region known as Montes Torozos. Although the significance of the area’s red wines grows day by day, it is very famous for its light red wines or rosés from Fuensaldaña, Mucientes and Cigales, many of which fall under the Cigales Designation of Origin. -The Queen Isabella Route or the White Wine Route: On this route, we visit, among other towns, Tordesillas, where in 1494 control over the New World was divided in two by a meridian. It has an outstanding Plaza Mayor with continuous arcades from the 16th and 17th centuries. Its churches and museums include the church-museum of San Antolín, with its excellent chapel of Los Alderete, and the Gothic churches of San Pedro and Santa María. The main feature in the town is the monastery of Santa Clara, a former Mudejar-style palace which conserves interesting Arabic baths. -The Castle route. -The Romanesque Route of Palencia. -Other cities in Castilla y León: Ávila, Burgos, León, Salamanca, Segovia... -Santander (in summer). This is a pleasant day-trip to the beach with a visit to Santillana del Mar. Culture Spanish film seasons: Pedro Almodóvar, Alejandro Amenábar, Julio Medem... Spanish music seasons: Ricky Martin, Joaquín Sabina, Manolo García... VISITS TO MUSEUMS Each month, we usually visit four or five of the city’s museums (entrance fees included): National Sculpture Museum: Three great masters from the Castilian school, Alonso Berruguete, Juan de Juni and Gregorio Fernández, maximum exponents of expressionist mannerism and Baroque naturalism, are represented by their most significant works (more information at Museo Nacional de Escultura). Herrerian Patio Museum: The Herrerian Patio holds the largest, most important private monographic collection of Spanish contemporary art from 1918 to present day. More information at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Español Patio Herreriano. Science Museum: This has been designed by architects of international prestige, such as Rafael Moneo and Juan José Echeverría. More information at Museo de la Ciencia . Columbus House-Museum: The Columbus House-Museum was built in the image of the viceroy’s palace constructed by Diego Columbus as a family residence in Santo Domingo. More information at Casa Museo de Colón. Cervantes House-Museum: Cervantes lived in this house with his wife Catalina, his daughter Isabel, his two sisters Magdalena and Andrea, his niece Constanza and a maid until the beginning of 1606 when he followed the Royal Court and returned the Madrid. More information at Casa Museo Cervantes. Zorrilla House-Museum: This house, owned by the Marquis of Revilla, marks the birthplace of the Romantic poet José Zorrilla Moral, born on 21 February 1817. More information at Casa Museo Zorrilla. Museum of Valladolid: Installed in the palace of the banker Fabio Nelli, the building is one of the best exponents of Classicist architecture in Valladolid from the end of the 15th century. Cathedral Museum: Opened in 1965, it is located in the medieval collegiate church built by Count Ansúrez. The Oriental Museum: This museum holds the best collection of art from the Far East in Spain. Museum of San Joaquín y Santa Ana: The church altarpieces are one of the museum’s highlights. It also has magnificent paintings by Francisco de Goya: Santa Ludgarda, St. Bernard helping Tullido and Death of St. Joseph. Museum of Santa Isabel: The building dates from the 15th century. On the Gospel side there is an altarpiece devoted to St. Francis, by Juan de Juni. Gastronomy Café-Tertulia: On some days, we meet up in a cafeteria in the city to speak about current affairs or simply to enjoy each other’s company. Wines and tapas: As Páramo, Academia de Español is located in the city centre, in the best-known tapas area of Valladolid, we meet up to try some of the famous local wines (Ribera del Duero, Cigales, Rueda) with the tasty tapas that go with them. |
 | Accommodations At Páramo, Academia de Español, we are convinced that choosing appropriate accommodation is very important for students to make the most of their stay and the language course they have chosen. In our experience, the best option is to live with a Spanish host family, a unique, enriching experience that immerses students not only in the Spanish language but also in everyday local life. However, we are also aware that some students prefer other types of accommodation.
